3 Lessons from the Movie Ted
Ted, a comic drama movie, teaches three lessons that are worth learning for all.
Comedy movies have always fascinated me. Be it the dialogue delivery, the dark jokes, roasting the character in a fun way, or even a lightweight PG-13 script, comedy-packed drama movies make sure you end up having a good laugh.
Also, the language necessarily doesn’t matter. I have watched several English, Hindi, Punjabi, and even Urdu movies which never disappoint you. Today I bring to you, 3 lessons from the movie Ted, which if you haven’t watched then you must check out today.
Ted is a story that follows a kid named John who barely has friends. His father gifts him a teddy bear and on a Christmas night, he wishes for the teddy to be alive and behave like a human.
To his surprise, the wish comes true and Ted becomes a miracle, a baby Jesus to John’s family. A Supernatural Phenomenon has entered John’s life and the world must know how to process this.
The story follows, with John is now a grown man with a beautiful girlfriend named Lori. Although Ted is still a 1.5-foot teddy bear, their friendship has formed a strong bond. The narration includes many ups and downs which feels relatable at a point of time that the audience enjoys it.
#1 Lesson: Balance
The first lesson from the movie would be to attain balance. In fact, the whole story is based on the balance in life, which John is unable to maintain. On one side he has his beloved friend from childhood, and on the other side is his girlfriend, whom he wants to marry and grow old with.
As John didn’t have many friends when he was young, he only had Ted, and to move out from him or to spend less time with him is actually harder than we think. With Ted, he had a life, a life in which he was carefree & relaxed. But with Lori (his girlfriend) he has to take things seriously and slowly, which often brings trouble to his door. Watching this movie can teach you a lot about how balance is so important and impactful in our lives.
#2 Lesson: Responsibility
Secondly, John is irresponsible. As I said, with Ted he used to be relaxed and in a chill mood, and often smokes marijuana at 9 AM on the couch, realizing that he’s late for his work. The movie presents various moments where John is being careless about his life and often puts the chip on either Ted’s or Lori’s shoulder, which is kinda of embarrassing for a man.
A man obviously should know how to build the foundations of his life, so that he cannot be easily shaken by random misunderstandings and complications winding up his way. How to be a man of your word? By doing exactly what you’re supposed to and taking responsibility for yourself, rather than whining about it like a wounded dog (yes that’s a doctor strange reference).
#3 Lesson: Have Fun
Finally, yet importantly, to have fun. Life’s short, and that doesn't mean we should leave our jobs to have fun while drinking a couple of beers and watching Netflix. It’s important to have a relaxed time during our life, stress is no good to anyone. And, that’s exactly what John and Ted are spotted doing the whole time.
They share an incredible bond, pop-culture-driven comic conversations, and support each other in the hard times. That’s what friends are for, to reduce the hassle from your shoulders to relax the other buddy. And remember, if you have a real friend, there will be some fights. And that’s okay, that’s how the progress builds up, slowly and processing every emotion. Don’t suppress anything and have fun. Also, go to work.
